Quick Shield and Quick Shield  Formula ND
are about the
Science of Thin Film Technology

Anyone who has used CD PLAYRIGHT’s Quick Shield or Quick Shield ND knows that several things change on the discs surface as a result of applying them. What most do not yet understand is the category of our chemistry which separates these products from standard fare.

Both, Quick Shield and now QS Formula ND belong to a class of products known as Thin films, these products are chemical combinations mixed together to provide surface layers which are built to support targeted applications. In the case of our targeted substrate polycarbonate, we build features into the products which support their use in applications such as video rental. The features of these products include the following;

1. Increasing disc durability.
2. Sealing the Disc from the effect of Ultra violet light.
3. Anti fungicide.
4. Slippery surface, to keep dust and grime on the outer layer.
5. Non harmful cleaning agents

In the case of both Quick Shield formulas, these combinations are designer chemistry which bond to the surface of our target substrate, optical media polycarbonate. These chemicals increase the rental life and playability of the media itself. Once you've started using them, use nothing else.

In fact, do an audit of what you've been using as cleaners, and rule out those items containing the following chemical bases; alcohol, ammonia, solvents, harsh detergents, alkaline or petroleum distillate's. Some of these may actually harm the discs causing degradation over time. Alcohol is most often used and is little better than a common disinfectant, providing no protection at all, and minimal cleaning power.

Quick Shield and Quick Shield formula ND are all you should ever need.

Thin Films are difficult to build, they require a carrier, and many carriers are solvents which can have a negative effect on media life. Ours are water based, which minimize the risk of use on media. In addition Our products have a long shelf life, estimates are now running at 5 years without material degradation.

Thin Films can be very sophisticated, some are built using nanopowders such as titaniumoxide TXO2, others are even more complicated and many contain rare earth minerals in combinations developed for special applications. Nano powders are measured particle sizes in the billionths of a meter. Combinations of these chemical physical elements are entering all phases of our society. The Nano Powder industry is being born as we speak. Public perception of these and other new industries is replete with misunderstanding, hence our effort is to expand your knowledge of what is really meaningful to the DVD trade.

CD PLAYRIGHT’s chemistries are designed to work in a cumulative way. Because they are water based, and we do not ask you to buy a baking chamber or other such devices, your sweat equity goes a long way in making the discs you treat, better.

Thin films are sophisticated, and some limitations will apply to them. Many have asked why these are not applied at the factory and we would suggest that during manufacture of DVD several protective layers are already a part of the built in process. So adding them at the factory won't solve the problems anyway.

The Problem is and will always be, that surfaces, where handling occurs, will always be affected by what people leave behind during routine use. No matter if they are hard coated or not. Surfaces will always need to be cleaned over and over again. Surface residues are the most common source of playback errors. Cleaning surfaces will always be a requirement of any media built to current specifications.

Bottom line is that sealing or laminating a discs surface is the only way to keep the damage from routine handling at the surface, where it is far easier to remove.

As field data grows, we may amend our SOP to include an alternating method for achieving optimum user applied scratch resistance. We are always open to comments and suggestions, our diligent customers actually made some serious contributions to the whole ND development, and with our base still at a manageable level, your feedback matters. Every day, shops big and small, and movie lovers in general, comment to us on how they best take advantage of these products on the trade floor or in their homes.

We encourage you who have not begun using these thin films to start at once. They are unlike anything else being marketed as cleaners, give them a try.
